Words of the King

Ad Sanctum members of Daoine Sidhe,

Every month I write a small piece about the issues that were put on the DS agenda for 2009. In the meantime we arrived at point four, the importance of which couldn’t be explained any better than by what happened in the DS Eve corporation lately.

4. Creating a stable environment in Daoine Sidhe's divisions
Trouble in the Eve corporation pointed out how much divisions are sometimes struggling with problems that could have been avoided. Communication, organization, hierarchy, and structure; they can make or break a group of people depending on each other in-game. As Daoine Sidhe has been around for 12 years, all such problems happened before and all solutions have been found before. Divisions should use this to their advantage, also the ones that tend to focus purely on their specific game from the perspective that “this game really is different from all the others”.

At the same time it is impossible and unwanted that the community’s leaders continuingly intervene with the leadership of division leaders. Only when divisions fail clear and strict intervention is needed in order to prevent that many DS members end up being disappointed in what our community has to offer: even though exactly divisions in trouble will usually not ask for assistance.

Community leaders are learning to recognize such signals, and to not be afraid of intervening accordingly. The situation in the Eve corporation is the first test of this new working method, and at the moment of writing it seems to have positive effects at least in the first stage of crisis management. Coming period will show to which degree intervention of community leaders is needed in practice before a division in heavy weather can look after itself again. For the sake of DS and its members.
