Review: resident evil 4 (Wii Edition)
Unfortunately I haven't bought any new games recently, so instead I'm going to review possibly my favourite Wii game, even though it is quite old now, seeing as it was originally released ONLY on the Gamecube. Then they went back on themselves and released it for the PS2, with more features than the Gamecube version. But alas, now we have it on the wii, with much better controls and all the features from both versions. At first, the storyline seems simple, the presidents daughter has been kidnapped and you have been sent to rescue her. But the plot gets a lot more complex as you get further in, when the town you're in isn't quite what it seems and all of its residents start attacking you. The character you play as is Leon S Kennedy who you might remember from Resident Evil 2 on the original Playstation. He is now an agent for the U.S. Government after surviving the Raccoon City incident 6 years earlier. resident evil 4 brought new gameplay to the Resident Evil series. In the earlier games there was a fixed camera in each room, which didn't move, whereas now the camera follows you in a third person kind of way, meaning it is a lot easier to aim at weak points on the enemies etc, and just generally makes it a lot easier and more fun to play. But, some die-hard Resi fans think it ruined the series, I strongly disagree. Unlike the other resident evil games, it isn't zombies you are fighting. It is still a version of the T-Virus, but this time it is in fact a parasite that takes over the body. This means that the enemies have better AI, wield weapons, and even drive vehicles.
The replay value of this game is immense as well, once you have completed the game the once, you unlock new costumes for the two main characters, a special weapon and three extra game modes. Once completing the extra game modes even more costumes and special weapons are unlocked. The first of the game modes is called Separate Ways. In this game you play through a shorter version of the main game, but from a different viewpoint. You play as Ada Wong, a mysterious woman in a red dress who keeps popping up, she is also from Resident Evil 2. Separate Ways was on the PS2 version of the game, whereas the Gamecube version had Assignment Ada, which is also present on this edition of the game. In this you also play as Ada, except there is less to do. You have to play through one level and collect 5 parasite samples. The last game you unlock, is The Mercenaries. At the start you can only play as Leon, and on the Village level, but as you get higher scores with certain characters on certain levels, more levels and characters are unlocked. The aim of this game is to run around the levels and kill as many enemies as possible.
As I said earlier, I disagree that it ruined the series, it is one of my favourite games ever.
Thank you for reading my review.
