Words of the King
Ad Sanctum members of Daoine Sidhe,Judging from the 80 views at the DS agenda, it seems there is a decent level of interest in the future of DS.
I consider this a good sign, and a signal that it is needed to explain the agenda by dedicating my words in the newsletter to this cause. Hence, after my previous article, we arrive at the second theme of change in DS.
2. Teaching management qualities to Daoine Sidhe's leaders
All too common is the statement “It’s only a game”; a true statement in itself, but for the fact that only does not belong there. DS is a game indeed, but like any game one that requires some commitment. It is no fun otherwise.
What does our community need for it to be fun?
In the past community culture taught us that ‘DS being a game’ stands for no commitment being needed, for agreements not having to be lived after, for everything being an excuse for inactivity at all time. With ‘Real Life’ as the ultimate wildcard to avoiding responsibility. This however lead to chaos. And so it was decided by the end of 2006 that at some point members have to start taking matters seriously. For the simple reason that a community with over a hundred active members cannot work without taking things seriously. Seriously in the sense of showing respect to each other: by listening, working together, and sticking to promises made. This demands that DS leaders have the necessary skills in organizing other members. Management skills. Is that bad? Not at all. Exactly in ‘Real Life’ there are plenty of situations in which these skills are useful as well.
